MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
January was a busy and fun month for your club. 18 people joined the photo shoot at Vulture City Mine, and an amazing number of impressive photos have been featured on the Club’s website in Galleries. We also added several new members. Welcome!!
About 50 people attended the January meeting, including several visitors, and enjoyed learning more about what our cell phones can do thanks to Lari Ott. (Hint: They do MUCH more than “selfies.” You can even talk on them!) A copy of her presentation is available HERE for Club members.
At the meeting, we introduced some new features for future meetings. Each month we will ask a member to tell us about how he/she got a photo and another member to tell us what he/she did to give a photo a specific look (post-processing steps or careful composition, for instance). We will also feature a photo by a member who wants to hear ideas on how to improve the photo, perhaps for competition or just personal satisfaction. Finally, we are inviting a member to tell us about a tip he/she may have discovered along a photographic journey. It might be how to use a newly discovered feature on a phone or how to find a specific button in Photoshop or other post-processing software. We look forward to monthly tips and stories from members. We hope you will want to volunteer to share with us.
The club's annual competition closed January 31. Thank you to those who submitted photos. Members of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) will be judging and scoring them for us. We will present awards and a slide show of the entries at a spring meeting.
The competition for the Arizona Camera Club Council (ACCC) closes February 9 for digital entries. If you are submitting a print, you need to have it to Gary Zoeller, our ACCC representative, by February 9. If you don't know Gary's address, just email us at email@example.com. Information on what and how to submit entries is included in the February Activities list below. Competitions are a fun way to teach yourself to look more critically at a photo. You might even win a ribbon and have your photo highlighted on the Club’s website!
This month’s photo theme is DISHES. Turn on your creative juices and send a photo to our email address and we will post it on our website under Galleries Theme of the Month.
Spring is here. It is warm outside. Shoot, Reflect, Experiment, Learn, Have fun!
The secret to taking better photos? Take more photos!
