Welcome to the website of the Trilogy Photography Club, a club open to all residents of Trilogy at Vistancia who want to improve their picture-taking skills. Or maybe you just want to learn how to use your camera. All are welcome to be a member of our club.

Want to know the secret to taking better photos? Take more photos!

And that is why we exist. We take pictures, talk about our photos and the stories behind them, have monthly themes to encourage members to keep taking pictures, and have guest speakers to help us learn new ideas. We sponsor trips and workshops, and we even have competitions to recognize outstanding photos submitted by members. We also invite members to share their tips about their cameras or how to use Lightroom/Photoshop.

Whether you use a DSLR, a point-and-shoot, or a smartphone camera, you will find our club to be fun and helpful. Take a few minutes to look at our website. Enjoy our “galleries” that often feature our monthly theme or a field trip. And then jump in and join us.

Did you know that International Photography Day was August 19? Who knew? I hope you are staying cool yet taking photographs as we turn the corner into Fall…

Call to action:

As announced last May, our Theme of the SUMMER is “your best vacation/staycation/travel photos”. Send them to tpcphotos4myclub@gmail.com and we’ll put them on the Gallery. Thanks to all of you who have already done so. We will continue to accept these photos until the Friday before our September meeting. It would be fun if you can find photos that reflect the 250th anniversary of USA. (I didn’t find many of these in Italy for some reason.) Or just photos you took this summer and really liked. And be patient. Ansel Adams said he only got 6-7 good photos per year!

Our next meeting on September 23 will feature “Ask a Pro”. We will have a guest photographer who excels in judging and processing photos. You are invited to send a photo or two to be critiqued. We suggest it is either one you are considering for submission to the ACCC competition or just one you would like to see reviewed to get ideas. If, following the meeting, you would like more ideas, our Competition Coach, Al Ungar, will be available for scheduling a one-on-one meeting with you. Send your photo to: lkydev@verizon.net with the subject heading “Photo for review.” ASAP!

The two outings for the summer were successful -- Butterfly Wonderland and the trip to Canyon de Chelly near Chinle, Arizona. Photos from both these trips are here on the Homepage and in Galleries. The Canyon de Chelly photos are also in Kiva on the digital display. Thanks to Gary Zoeller for leading these outings.

The October 28 meeting will feature a guest speaker on Landscape Photography. Watch for announcements and details on the website and at the September meeting.

November and December may feature opportunities to get out of the clubhouse and take photos onsite or nearby. Stay tuned for more information.

January will give us a guest speaker on “learning to see creatively.” His name is Greg Holden, and you can see some of his work on the internet.

February we are looking at a speaker who can speak on “long exposures” and landscapes.

March is still being planned, but we are looking at a program on choosing print media (standard, metal, acrylic, glass, wood) and ideas for creating photo books. As more plans are made, we will let you know.

The club is strong and growing stronger. The new year will see more tips for improving your photography, whether you use a DSLR or Smartphone. Plan on being active in the new season. Volunteer for presentations or for leading an outing. And invite your friends to visit a meeting and join.

And remember: The secret to taking better photos is to TAKE MORE PHOTOS!

MEETINGS

Trilogy Photography Club meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month from September thru May at the Commons at Kiva at 6 PM.

Meetings may include guest speakers, field trips to practice skills and capture unique photo opportunities, workshop classes, or club competitions.

PLEASE NOTE: Meetings in November and December may occur on other days or may be cancelled due to holiday conflicts. Trilogy residents who are interested in learning more about the Club are invited to attend prior to joining.

PHOTO SHOOTS

The TPC hosts a number of photo shoots each year, including field trips, workshops in the field, monthly themes, etc.

Past photo shoots have included:

A 3-day trip to Monument Valley for a guided shoot of sunrise and sunset with a Navajo guide
A day event at the Pioneer Living History Museum which included a re-enactment of an old west shoot-out!

COMPETITIONS

Each year the TPC hosts at least one club photo competition for its members.

Judging is performed by the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and awards are presented at our Club meetings.

In addition, winners and their photographs are highlighted on this website and in print at the Trilogy Kiva Club. Information on how to enter can be found HERE.

The TPC also encourages its members to participate in other competitions throughout the year, such as those held by the Arizona Camera Club Council (ACCC). Information on the ACCC competitions can be found HERE.

GALLERIES

The best way to learn photography and to improve your skills is to shoot, shoot, shoot...and share!

The TPC encourages members to "shoot and share" by hosting print displays of selected photographs at the Kiva Club and through posting members' photos on this website.

We encourage members to submit their photos to "theme of the month" and other special galleries created by the Board. Please refer to the Competitions tab to learn how to submit correctly sized and named photos.

In addition, the Board posts galleries of winning photographs from the TPC competition(s) and from the ACCC competitions. Please visit our on-line galleries to see and share the work.
